I obtained my Habilitation at the Humboldt University in Berlin in Cultural Theory and History and my PhD at the Freie University Berlin and at the Université de Paris 8 in Philosophy (as Cotutelle de thèse). In 2016 I substituted the Chair of History of Science at Regensburg University and in 2014 I was a Visiting Professor in the History Department at Mainz University. I holded scholarships at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia, at the Leibniz Institut für Europäische Geschichte in Mainz, at the Centre Marc Bloch and at the Humboldt University in Berlin. I'm currently working on a monograph about the history of knowledge of early modern alchemy, which will focus on the changes in the epistemic structures of this field.edit

The term "pseudoscience" is used to imply that a person or group who is using the term "science" to describe their activities, thereby laying claim to the associated societal status, is not entitled to do so. The prefix "pseudo" is derived from the Greek word ψεύδειν, meaning "to cheat, lie or deceive". Thus, the accusation of pseudoscience suggests the fraudulent appropriation of the status of science. The term primarily implies a value judgement. It is viewed as being of little descriptive or analytical value in presentday discussions of the theory of science. While attempts to establish a normative definition of the concept seem doomed to failure, an investigation of historical usage of the term is interesting from a conceptual historical perspective. A description of the varying theoretical concepts and empirical usages of the term pseudoscience over longer time periods as well as in intercultural and transnational comparisons of scientific systems also describes ex negativo the historical and cultural development of concepts of scientific validity.
